Country Closet Thrift Shop began operations in Plain City in April 1997, with a handful of volunteers at 9899 U.S. Hwy 42. The Country Closet moved to 299 South Jefferson Avenue in 2001. On September 4, 2011 the building and contents were completely destroyed in a blazing fire caused by a lighting strike. On October 5, 2011 Country Closet opened its doors at its current location at 9800 U.S. Hwy 42. The 10, 200 square foot facility is now home to nearly 100 volunteers, who serve in the name of Christ.
We embrace our responsibility to support and improve our local community. Country Closet Thrift Shop helps support other local non-profits as a way to give back to the community. Those who receive monthly support includes: DNA, Sufficient Grace, Plain City Church Fellowship, Agora Christian Ministries, Plain City Food Pantry, Loving Care Hospice and many more receive other resources and funds throughout the year.
In January 1972, four women in Altona, Manitoba, Canada began an all-volunteer resale shop, which sold donated clothing and household items to contribute proceeds to the Mennonite Central Committee (MCC). In 1974, the movement jumped across the border and a new thrift shop opened its doors in Bluffton, Ohio. Today, Country Closet Thrift Shop joins the network of 113 thrift shops throughout the United States in Canada supporting MCC and our local community.
